About the Health Department

The Health Department of Mushin Local Government is responsible for promoting and protecting the health and well-being of all residents. Its primary focus is on preventive healthcare, disease control, environmental hygiene, and access to quality primary healthcare services.

The department operates and supervises several Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the local government area, offering maternal and child healthcare, immunization, health education, and emergency services.

Through strategic health initiatives, the department continuously works to reduce disease outbreaks, improve sanitation, and provide equitable access to essential medical services for all residents, regardless of age, gender, or social status.

Core Responsibilities

Disease Prevention & Control

Implementing vaccination programs and public health interventions to prevent and manage communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Primary Health Services

Managing public health facilities, including PHCs, to deliver quality medical services at the grassroots level.

Maternal & Child Healthcare

Providing essential healthcare to pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under five through safe delivery, nutrition, and immunization programs.

Health Education & Promotion

Conducting community outreach programs and awareness campaigns on hygiene, nutrition, and preventive health practices.

Epidemiological Surveillance

Monitoring disease trends and coordinating timely responses to outbreaks in partnership with state and federal agencies.

Sanitation & Public Hygiene

Working with the Environmental Department to enforce hygiene standards and prevent public health hazards.

School Health Programs

Collaborating with the Education Department to conduct medical screening, deworming, and health talks for students.

Emergency Medical Response

Providing immediate health interventions during accidents, outbreaks, or natural disasters.
